SA Tomorrow Comprehensive Plan | San Antonio, TX
Overview
As part of San Antonio’s long-range planning efforts, Chase collaborated with city staff and stakeholders to help shape the City’s innovative “place types” framework—used to guide future development patterns across major Building Blocks. These place types define the intended mix of land uses, building form, public spaces, streets, parking, and infrastructure tailored to different contexts — ranging from neighborhood main streets to regional transit hubs and adaptive reuse zones.
To bring these concepts to life, Chase created compelling 3D visualizations and planning diagrams that clarified how each place type could function and evolve. These graphics translated complex planning principles into tangible, site-specific visions that helped policymakers understand trade-offs and align regulations with long-term goals.
Equally important were the interactive design charrettes facilitated with residents, city staff, and other stakeholders. These sessions enabled participants — including those rarely involved in planning processes — to directly contribute to shaping the future of their neighborhoods. By seeing their ideas reflected in real-time designs, participants built deeper trust in the planning process and helped ensure the resulting policies were more grounded, inclusive, and actionable.
