Ogden and Lawndale Study – Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning
Overview
Chase collaborated closely with the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to reimagine a key underutilized arterial corridor in South Chicago. The project aimed to demonstrate how targeted street design improvements—such as a road diet, enhanced streetscapes, and improved multimodal infrastructure—could transform the corridor into a safer, more vibrant, and more connected community asset.
Using a combination of 3D visualization, conceptual site planning, and stakeholder input, Chase helped illustrate the potential impact of reconfiguring the roadway to prioritize pedestrians, cyclists, and public space, while maintaining efficient traffic flow. These visual tools were critical in helping both CMAP staff and community members better understand and evaluate the proposed improvements.
In addition to corridor redesign, the project also explored strategic redevelopment scenarios for adjacent vacant and abandoned land. Chase developed design concepts that addressed both short-term activation strategies—such as pop-up parks, community gardens, and temporary uses—as well as long-term visions for mixed-use development, housing, and public amenities. These proposals were tailored to reflect the aspirations of local residents while supporting broader goals around equity, resilience, and neighborhood revitalization.
Together, these efforts provided a compelling visual roadmap for reinvestment in South Chicago, offering actionable ideas and inspiring a shared vision for a more inclusive and livable future.
