Hart Park – West Hollywood, CA

Overview

As part of MIG’s design team, Chase developed detailed 3D models and graphic alternatives to support the redesign of William S. Hart Dog Park in West Hollywood—an aging but beloved community asset originally built before ADA standards were established. The park’s steep slopes and outdated infrastructure posed serious accessibility challenges, especially for community members with mobility impairments.

Chase’s work focused on visually translating the complexities of terrain, circulation, and access into clear, easy-to-understand graphics that helped both the public and ADA advocates assess and engage with proposed alternatives. His visualizations played a critical role in shaping a shared understanding of how topographic constraints could be addressed without compromising the park’s off-leash dog area, which is a vital resource for residents.

The graphics also helped bridge gaps caused by inaccurate “as-built” records and limited visibility under dense tree canopies—offering a more reliable representation of existing conditions. By making design trade-offs transparent and accessible to all stakeholders, the visuals empowered the community to make informed choices and helped ensure the selected alternative would create a more inclusive and equitable public space for everyone in West Hollywood.
